When I heard my people from up there, my first thought was, I didn’t want to get out of the woods. Being here, I got nothing on my shoulders. I don’t have to follow a schedule. It’s like I get to be myself once again. KINNPORSCHE: THE SERIES (2022) dir. Khom Kongkiat
Kan was the head of the minor family with no look to installing Vegas as his successor because he’s wandering around like, I’m the boss xyz.
Korn is clearly not gonna die any time soon so why begin the transition of power to Kinn? What purpose does it serve?
Kinn, moreso than Kim, was the flight risk. Kim knows and struggles with his inability to divorce himself from the way he was raised and the fact he is most like their father of all the Theerapanyakul siblings. Khun never leaves the house which is convenient so there’s Kinn who wanted to be a musician and fall in love and be happy - quite literally the antithesis of the mafia life. Porsche has to literally hold him back from reaching out to his uncle in the middle of a gun fight intended to end with his death.
Korn doesn’t want to let any of his pieces go and Kinn was the only son who would leave and actually leave. He, like Nampheung, could have met a nice boy and never came home whereas Kim would always have a murder board. If Kinn is like his mom, and I wouldn’t put it past Korn, and she tried to leave? He probably killed her rather than let her leave with his sons. His chess pieces for his own games and machinations.
Korn is always having to impress his will on Kinn because Kinn, in the end, doesn’t care about the mafia. He only cares about the people in it.
What I’ve wanted for Porsche’s character growth, for him to become a strong and sure presence in his own life, and here we have it all laid out side by side for us to see from where he was to where he is now.
From a man who was always at the mercy of others, his actions forced/dictated by circumstances or the will of others, powerless, unsure, uniformed and directionless to who he is today:
A man who embodies strength, his every step oozing confidence, the upright and sure-of-himself posture. He now has autonomy, knowledge and power, he has a clear direction, his own purpose.
And for it to be all framed so beautifully, I couldn’t ask for more.
Bodyguard Porsche leaping on his boss/boyfriend’s back because he’s scared of ghosts…
…before remembering he’s the bodyguard and tries to protect Kinn from the ghost of Pete, while Tankhun hugs his new zombie bodyguard. Kinn goes from unfazed to gently amused at the usual family antics, now including Porsche!
kinn and porsche have so much going on but i for one am obsessed with the way the power dynamic between them is always in contrast to what you’d expect.
porsche is ALWAYS the bigger one.
porsche is ALWAYS the one taking up more space in the shot.
porsche is ALWAYS the one who has surety and power when he’s looking at kinn. (and kinn is always the first to look away!!!)
it drives me insane because it’s so good!! he doesn’t fully understand it yet because he doesn’t fully understand anything yet but he has so much power in their dynamic. they may not be on equal footing just yet, but the visual message is clear - they’re a match for each other.
Very cool analysis. Porsche is unique among the guards - and maybe among most people that interact with Kinn - in that he pushes back against him constantly. In every interaction there is a critical power dynamic playing out, especially in that med suite scene, where Kinn explains that everyone belongs to him, and Porsche stares him down, undercutting that professed power. He is the Chess Queen to his King. Powerful but in a different way.
As more people join the KP fandom, some may ask, what genre is KinnPorsche?
Answer: Yes.
I’ve heard it’s a gay romance. Really? Yes, there will be a thorough exploration of tonsils and flicking of man tits. Also the world’s most emotionally intense hand job. You will have tears in your eyes.
What about the action? Someone is shot in the head in the first 5 minutes. There is a body count, so if you need blood, this show is here for you.
Torture? We have you covered. I recommend a transparent rain coat.
So it’s a serious action drama. Any comedic moments? More than you can imagine. How do you feel about a man dressed as a mermaid for punishment? Flying dicks? Flying hand grenades? Wacky hijinks abound.
Sexy moments? Bring a tall glass of ice water to watch this show. This is some off the charts chemistry. No bathroom is safe from these two. Or pool. Or window.
Adorable fluffy moments? Absolutely. Come for the murder but stay for the mafia boyfriend submitting to a million goofy pictures with his chaos gremlin. Also a wholesome side couple serenading each other, if that’s your thing.
Then it’s not a show with painful angsty moments. Au contraire. It will tear out your heart and FEED IT TO YOU.
Family drama? It’s all about family. And carp.
I can’t watch a show without a murder board. Is there a conspiracy and murder-mystery? That’s in there, too. Kimlock Holmes is working on it. He just needs to find the conspiracy and the murder and the murderer.
I need me some morally gray characters. How do you feel about dubious choices, followed by consequences, and heartfelt apologies?
Horror? Well, there’s a horror movie night…
I’m almost afraid to ask, but sci-fi/fantasy? Yes. Through the power of gay sex, our protagonist was completely healed of a gunshot would. Not even a scar remains.
I think the best part of KinnPorsche, and it really comes to mind with this latest episode, is that every character thinks they’re in a different genre and it’s the funniest thing watching it clash with the reality.
Kinn is just living his best rom-com life where he falls for his sassy but kind assistant bodyguard that he can no longer live with out.
Porsche is basically a YA novel where he falls for his sexy morally ambiguous love interest who’s secretly sweet but *gasp* his past has come to haunt him!
Pete thinks he’s in a dark psychological thriller where he must battle his inner demons and brooding but hot captor to maintain his humanity but it threatens to over take him at any moment as he is torn between his newly found dark desires and the reputation he prides himself on.
Vegas acts like he’s in gothic bodice ripper novel where his entire world becomes the kind, empathic heroine Pete and he will do anything to keep him to himself and Pete is going to help him overcome the truama of his past with his love.
Kim sees himself in this brooding noir style detective film where he must uncover the dark past of his family but oh no he finds himself falling for the pure and sweet ingénue Chay and must wrestle with the dangerous life he leads and the mission he’s devoted himself to and the love of his life
Porchay thought he’s living his Wattpad dream life where he meets his idol and gains his respect as he tutors him and they slowly develop a sweet friendship that turns into a heartfelt romance
They really demonstrate how all the characters are protagonists of their own story, and that’s how they make their decisions, based on the assumptions on the world around them. They think they know the story their in, and that’s the role they have taken, but the tragedy and the complications of these relationships is that they aren’t in a single genre story. They’re people, achingly human people, interacting with other complex people and what is salvation for one is a damnation for the other.
They aren’t in any specific genre (you know, beyond on the whole mafia thing) and that’s where the miscommunication happens, that’s how the drama unfolds, that’s how all these different romances keep missing each other, because they’re all operating on different wavelengths based on the story they think *THEY’RE* in and not stopping to really consider the other perspective.
It’s absolutely hilarious, it’s terribly tragic, it’s utterly beautiful and performed so well by the writers and the actors.
There’s no longer the main family nor the minor family because we both will become one. I told you before. I’m not on the main family’s side. And I’m not on the minor family’s side. But I’m on your side. All my life, is all yours.I promise you. I’ll treasure it. I love you.
